Group Background

  • The Youth Group has been in existence for over twenty years and provides support to the Glasgow Lourdes Hospitalite and the medical stauff during the annual archdicocesan pilgrimage. The group also coordinates and leads the music liturgy for most of the services that take place throughout the course of the week.
  • In any given year, the Group will have approximately sixty members, the majority of whom are school leavers or students who commit themselves to assisting with and caring for the sick pilgrims. The Youth Group are easily identified by their wearing of kilts and the tartan sashes which emphasise their pride in hailing from Scotland.
  • Under the guidance of the Chef, the Youth Groups main duty is to oversee the transport of the sick pilgrims from one area to another. However, they also assist the Hospitalite by carrying out a variety of duties such as helping at mealtimes, cleaning the wards, or working at the baths. A typical day for a Group member might involve helping with breakfast, transporting sick pilgrims from the Accueil to church, going 'up' to the town to do some shopping, and, finally, taking part in one of the daily processions. At the end of a long and tiring day, the Group has night prayers in their hotel. For a typical week in Lourdes please goto here
  • The annual pilgrimage normally takes place during the Glasgow fair weekend in July and lasts 10 days in total
  • This website will act as a central point of information for all group activities whilst also serving all those who may be interested in the background of the group or Lourdes.

Some of the group have been visiting Lourdes for a number of years whilst for some last year was their first trip. All who have been part of the voyage have had their lives transformed for the better as a result. The experience is truly undescribable.
